Our Services
Restoring Hope Ministries offers Christ-centered care for the whole person. Our care pathways may include biblical counseling, pastoral care, licensed clinical support, recovery groups, church partnership, and — when appropriate and available — neuroscience-informed services such as neurofeedback or Brainspotting provided by properly trained professionals.
We do not believe any method replaces Christ, Scripture, prayer, repentance, community, or the faithful care of the local church. Rather, we seek to steward every appropriate tool in humble submission to God's design for healing.
We also deeply respect our licensed colleagues in the helping professions. If RHM is not the right fit for you, we will gladly help connect you to someone who is. What matters most is that you get help.
Understanding the Difference — Biblical Care vs. Licensed Clinical Therapy
Biblical & Pastoral Care (our primary offering)
Faith-based, Scripture-shaped soul care and pastoral presence. Not licensed clinical treatment. Not insurance-billable. Generally available across state lines as ministry. Our counselors include staff with clinical licensure who bring that awareness to their pastoral work — but the primary nature of all RHM care is biblical and pastoral.
Licensed Clinical Services (where applicable)
Mark Hufen (LCPC/LPC/SAC) provides services that may qualify as licensed clinical care in Wisconsin and Illinois. Dr. Gross holds SAC-IT (Wisconsin DSPS) — an in-training credential for substance abuse counseling under supervision. Licensed clinical services are state-specific and have different billing and regulatory implications. We will clarify which type of care you are receiving before sessions begin.

Every care pathway begins with listening. Because no two stories are identical, RHM does not offer a one-size-fits-all pathway. The pathway follows the person — not the other way around.
Initial Contact
Brief 15–20 min case manager call to clarify need, risk, fit, and readiness
Needs Review
In-person or telehealth meeting to understand your story, supports, and faith background
Assessment (if needed)
Licensed assessment to identify appropriate pathway — counseling, neurofeedback, group, or referral
Licensed Care Foundation
Stabilization, rapport-building, and safety monitoring with a licensed clinician when indicated
Biblical Counseling
Scripture-shaped, relational, prayerful care — helping you seek Christ in suffering, grief, and confusion
Community & Aftercare
Groups, church connection, discipleship, and mentorship toward sustainable belonging
Some RHM services may be eligible for insurance depending on provider type and service type. RHM will explain costs and options before services begin.

Pastoral Supervision
Formal supervision for ACBC, NANC, and other biblical counseling certifications — led by Dr. Jeffrey Gross.
Social Work Services
Faith-informed social work services meeting practical, emotional, and spiritual needs — coordinated by Loretta Sabin.
AODA Assessment
Full ASAM assessment, SBIRT, and clinical interview with psychological screening tools. A case manager from RHSBC is assigned to assist with attaining needed services.

Grief Counseling
Grief is one of the most disorienting experiences a human being can face — and one of the most mishandled by well-meaning people. At RHM, we believe grief must be honored, not hurried. God Himself is described as "close to the brokenhearted" (Psalm 34:18), and we take that seriously.

Lament
Psalm 22:1Honest, raw address to God — bringing the full weight of grief into His presence without pretense. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Remembrance
Psalm 77:10–12Recalling what is true about God even when feelings contradict it — rehearsing His faithfulness as an anchor in darkness.
Community
Romans 12:15"Mourn with those who mourn." Grief is not meant to be carried alone. The body of Christ is called to sit in the ashes with you.

Marriage Restoration
Marriage was designed by God to image the covenant love of Christ for His church — and when it is broken, the repair requires more than communication skills. RHM's approach to marriage counseling begins at the heart level, holds the covenant before couples with pastoral honesty, and walks with them through the slow and sacred work of restoration.

Ephesians 5:25–33Marriage at RHM is not just a relationship — it is a covenant. Shaped by Ephesians 5 and the redemptive arc of Scripture, we hold the permanence and sacrificial nature of the covenant before couples throughout the process.
Genuine Forgiveness
Colossians 3:12–14We distinguish between cheap reconciliation and costly biblical forgiveness. Repentance, restitution, and the slow rebuilding of trust require pastoral honesty — and we do not rush couples past what has been broken.
Trauma-Informed Presence
Isaiah 43:2Betrayal, abuse history, and chronic conflict can produce real trauma responses. Our counselors hold both the covenant and the safety of each spouse simultaneously — particularly in high-conflict situations.

Biblical vs. Secular Counseling
At Restoring Hope Ministries, we offer Biblical Counseling, a unique approach rooted in Scripture, distinct from secular counseling and therapy. Here is a clear distinction between our services and secular licensed therapy.

Scripture Foundation — Not Proof-Texting
Biblical counseling is shaped by the authority and sufficiency of God's Word. But this does not mean we quote verses at people in pain. That is called proof-texting — applying Scripture axiomatically and without pastoral presence — and it can be deeply harmful, contributing to church hurt and spiritual trauma. Our counselors are specifically trained to listen first and speak Scripture wisely and personally.
Spiritual Transformation
The goal of biblical counseling is not symptom management — it is formation toward Christ. We walk with people through suffering, grief, and confusion, believing that honest engagement with God and His Word leads to genuine transformation, not just coping.
Pastoral — Not Clinical Therapy
We do not diagnose or treat mental health disorders as a clinical service. Our care is pastoral and faith-based. Where staff hold clinical licensure, that credential informs their work but does not convert our sessions into licensed mental health treatment. We are always clear about this distinction at intake.
Qualified, Supervised & Accountable
Our counselors hold advanced degrees in biblical counseling and receive ongoing pastoral supervision. Licensed staff hold state credentials in Wisconsin (and Illinois for Mark Hufen). Dr. Gross holds the SAC-IT credential (Substance Abuse Counselor — In Training) from Wisconsin DSPS. We review our website language monthly in compliance with WI statutes.
Dual Board Oversight
A Board of Directors and a Biblical Ethics Accountability Board provide dual-layer oversight — reflecting our commitment to transparency, ethical conduct, and the standards God calls leaders to in James 3:1.
Scripture & Science — Partners, Not Opponents
Sola Scriptura does not conflict with responsible inquiry into how God made us. When psychology, neuroscience, and clinical insight are used within the framework of Scripture, they become useful tools — never replacing Christ, but helping us understand and care for the people He loves.
