Building our peer approach

Restoring Hope is developing its peer workforce and education approach using the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Peer Services Employer Toolkit and current research. Our planning emphasizes clear roles, thoughtful recruitment and orientation, ongoing learning, and supportive supervision.

Peer work has its own purpose and boundaries. It does not provide clinical diagnosis, psychotherapy, treatment direction, or medication management. People should receive clear information about the role of the person supporting them.

What guides our planning

• Respect for each person's goals, choices, and lived experience.
• Clear boundaries between peer support, clinical services, housing operations, and education.
• Preparation, orientation, continuing development, and access to supervision.
• Privacy-conscious communication and documentation.
• Evaluation that considers experience, access, engagement, and progress without promising a particular outcome.

Research provides useful guidance while showing that results vary by program, population, and setting. We use that evidence to improve planning; it does not establish outcomes for a new local program.
